Abstract:

We discuss energy conditions in general relativity, focusing on null energy conditions. We then consider a time-like linear dilaton background and suggest a non perturbative folded string solution for it. This solution has interesting properties, and in particular it violates the averaged null energy condition. We argue that these folded strings are spontaneously created behind the horizon of the SL(2,R)/U(1) black hole, and actually fill the entire area of the black hole.

We suggest, as a possible conjecture regarding the above violation, that these folded strings prevent information from entering the black hole.
