Abstract:
Over the last decades millimeter wave astronomy has established itself as a central pillar of modern multi-wavelength astrophysics and has created new opportunities to investigate physical and chemical processes in almost all areas related with interstellar matter. This evolution was enabled through very substantial progress in instrumentation and evolution of the facilities. I will outline the current status with an emphasis on IRAM and discuss the current and future science frontiers which are and will be treated.
