Astronomy & Astrophysics Seminar: Forty Years of Popularizing Astronomy

Abstract:

Forty-plus years ago I left academic research in astronomy to become an astronomy popularizer.  Since then I have written many books and articles on astronomy and related topics, and have worked on various television documentaries, including both "Cosmos" series (Carl Sagan's and Neil Tyson's).  I hope to share with you the modest insights I have gained in how to connect with the public, and what might be done to encourage public interest in, and support for, astronomical and scientific research in general."
