Astronomy & Astrophysics Seminar

Abstract:

We are developing a gamma-ray detector that will be part of the ISS-TAO mission proposed by NASA/GSFC to the International Space Station (ISS).

I will introduce ISS-TAO (Transient Astrophysics Observer) x-ray telescope that designed to search for x-ray counterparts of LIGO gravitational waves candidates, and our GTM that extend TAO observable regime to the soft-gamma-ray band and allow to identify the counterpart as a GRB. GTM can also independently search for GRB and other gamma-ray transient sources and localize them to within several degrees, allowing TAO to accurately localize them in sky and redirect other telescopes. Finally, I will review our plans for a GRB monitoring from nano-satellites.
