Geosciences Dept. Seminar: Past Achievements and Future Directions in Cloud physics Research
Prof Zev Levin, Tel-Aviv University
Abstract:
Clouds Physics is a field that deals with the processes of rain formation, rain enhancement, lightning generation and the effects of clouds on climate. As an illustration of its importance, the past few IPCC reports show that the biggest uncertainty in climate forecast is related to the interactions between clouds and climate.
The lecture I will briefly discuss the modern history of cloud physics research and some of the key advances in our understanding of the processes that take place in clouds. I will identify some results from the research carried out in our department, including our experiment on board the Columbia Space shuttle with Ilan Ramon. I will also identify some of the key topics that still remain unclear.
