June 2019: Rechavi: Information that worms learn can be inherited by their offsprings
Prof. Oded Rechavi, Edmond J. Safra affiliate (LS), and his team have shown that information that worms learn can be inherited by their offsprings.
The researchers have shown, for the first time, how changes in the nervous system cells are inherited for generations to come.
The groundbreaking study was done on worms (C. elegans), however according to Prof. Rechavi, if the mechanism is found in other animals, it will be necessary to rephrase the connection between environmental influences and heredity.
The study was featured in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.
