July 2019: Second annual workshop of the Koret-Berkeley-TAU Initiative

The second annual workshop of the Koret - UC Berkeley - Tel Aviv University (KBT) Initiative in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics took place on July 28-29 2019 in the Steinhardt Museum of Natural History at TAU. Some 80 researchers participated in the two days of the workshop, including seven Berkeley researchers. TAU President, Professor Ariel Porat, opened the workshop. He greeted the audience, emphasized the importance and the uniqueness of this Berkeley-TAU collaboration and thanked the Koret Foundation for making it possible.  Prof. Steven Brenner of Berkeley and Prof. Ron Shamir, the PIs of the initiative, also welcomed the audience.

The talks during the two days spanned a broad spectrum of state-of-the-art research topics, showing the leadership of both institutions in computational biology and bioinformatics. On the first evening, the Berkeley guests and the TAU speakers went out together for dinner in a restaurant on the Tel Aviv seaside promenade. This was another opportunity to strengthen the ties in an informal and friendly environment.

The workshop strengthened the collaboration between TAU and Berkeley researchers and laid the foundation for establishing new partnerships towards the forthcoming joint KBT grants call.
