January 2021: QBI/UCSF-TAU grants in computational biology and drug discovery

QBI/UCSF in collaboration with the Edmond J. Safra Center for Bioinformatics and the Blavatnik Center for Drug Discovery at TAU have announced a call for joint grants between QBI/UCSF and TAU scientists.

January 2021: QBI/UCSF-TAU grants in computational biology and drug discovery

QBI/UCSF in collaboration with the Edmond J. Safra Center for Bioinformatics and the Blavatnik Center for Drug Discovery at TAU have announced a call for joint grants between QBI/UCSF and TAU scientists. A total of $300K was secured by both institutions for the initiative. The collaborative grants are aimed to effectively connect the computational biology and drug discovery communities at UCSF and TAU.

 

After application and scientific reviewing, the following five groups were selected and awarded grants:

 

William DeGrado, Dept. of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, QBI-UCSF, and Ehud Gazit, The Shmunis School of Biomedicine and Cancer Research, Faculty of Life Sciences, TAU.

Project title: "The interplay between metabolites and proteins in Parkinson’s disease"

 

Nevan Krogan, Department of Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology, QBI-UCSF, and Roded Sharan, School of Computer Science, TAU.

Project title: "Network-based identification of novel drug targets for COVID-19"

 

Tanja Kortemme, Dept. of Bioengineering & Therapeutic Sciences, QBI-UCSF, Noam Ben-Eliezer, Dept. of Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, and Maayan Gal, Faculty of Medicine, TAU.

Project title: "Design of hyperstable de novo proteins as non-antibody biologics, and specific

quantitative MRI biomarkers"

 

Raul Andino, Dept. of Microbiology & Immunology, QBI-UCSF, and Tzachi Hagai, The Shmunis School of Biomedicine and Cancer Research, Faculty of Life Sciences, TAU.

Project title: "Deciphering the unique properties of bat antiviral immunity".

 

Tejal Desai, Dept. of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences, QBI-UCSF, and Noam Shomron, Faculty of Medicine, TAU.

Project title: "Ultra-low dose THC treatment leads to precision Nano-mRNA delivery for augmented cognition".

 

The one-year grants start on February 2021. We envision these grants as seeding long-term successful collaborations and will seek additional funding to broaden and deepen the collaboration between the institutes.
