On Thursday, April 10, we held a ceremony in memory of Prof. Beno Arbel who was the director of the program for Special Status students in the School of Mathematical Sciences for 25 years, and passed away last year. Students, alumni, family members, and colleagues attended the ceremony.

 

During the ceremony, the Vice-Rector, Prof. Dina Prialnik, announced the renaming of the program of Special Status students to the "Beno Arbel Program for Gifted Young Students in Mathematics."

 

The members of the Israeli team to the International Mathematics Olympiad that will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, in July 2014, was also announced during the ceremony. The members of the team are Tomer Novikov, Amotz Oppenheim, Dor Shmoish and Omri Solan, who study as Special Status students at Tel Aviv University, and Dor Metzer and Nitzan Tur, who study as Special Status students at the Technion.
