Abstract:

Since the first discovery of gravitational-waves from a binary black hole merger more than five years ago, a new avenue for studying the Universe has been opened. There are now dozens and there will soon be hundreds of gravitational-wave sources found. I will give an overview of how these sources are detected, the process of rapid identification, and the prospects for the pre-merger detection and localization of binary neutron star mergers with the current facilities. In addition, I will touch upon how gravitational-wave observations may be able to help constrain the abundance of sub-solar-mass primordial black holes, one possible component of dark matter.
