Why is the DeadSea disappearing?
There is no other place in the world like the Dead Sea. Because it is the lowest place on Earth, its floor is covered with debris that has been eroded away by streams and flood waters that flow into it. The concentration of minerals is so high that they cannot all dissolve, and the excess sinks to the bottom. This material, which has collected over millions of years, serves as an archive of environmental history that testifies to the multitude of changes that the area has undergone: climate change, magnetic field variations, earthquakes that have disturbed the depths, dust storms, and the impact of man.
