    Physical Chemistry Laboratory 1

    Semester 2 - Physical Chemistry Laboratory 1 is intended for second year students who have completed the following courses: General Chemistry 1 + 2, General Physics 1 + 2, Learning Workshop, Introduction to Organic Chemistry, Kinetics, and Thermodynamics.


    The purpose of the lab: This course is intended to acquaint the students with the practice of experimental physical chemistry and to provide an introduction to this area of scientific activity. This laboratory is based on six sets of experiments covering a wide range of topics in physical chemistry such as: spectroscopy, electrochemistry, thermodynamics, kinetics, a computer simulation and vacuum techniques. Students are exposed to a variety of experimental methods with a few goals in mind:

    • To gain familiarity with a variety of modern physical-chemistry experimental equipment and measurement techniques. 

    • To develop laboratory skills and the ability to work independently, taking into account the safety rules.

    • To learn how to describe experimental results and analyze them quantitatively.

    • To develop the ability of scientific communications through written reports and frontal presentations.


    Physical Chemistry Laboratory 2

    Semester 1 - Physical Chemistry Laboratory 2 is intended for third year students who have completed the following courses: Quantum and chemical bonding, Thermodynamics, Kinetics, Physical chemistry laboratory 1.


    The purpose of the lab: Expansion and deepening of the knowledge in the variety of experimental methods presented in physical chemistry laboratory 1. This lab is also based on six sets of advanced experiments on various topics in physical chemistry including: Emission and absorption spectra of diatomic molecule, Adsorption of gases, Gas heat conduction, Chemical  kinetics acetone iodination, Surface tension and QCM-Quartz Crystal Microbalance.


    Based on the skills of Physical Chemistry lab 1, the student is required to demonstrate capabilities such as: experiment design and implementation with an emphasis on safety rules; demonstrating measurement capabilities, analysis and discussion; developing independent thinking abilities.
